Best tiny pilot image for Pi zero 2w
#11
Hi all.

I bought a Pi zero 2 planning to install pypilot on It just because was more powerful and not much more expensive. But when reading the manuals and forums I have found that It may not work as well. I know, I should have read the manuals before and I did but I did not noticed that subtlety. ?

On https://pypilot.org/downloads/ there are three versions of pypilot installer:

Latest tinypilot_2024_07_17.img.xz

Previous (old 2021) tinypilot_2021_11_16.img.xz

Pi4/Pi zero 2 (stelian's image) tinypilot13-20211126.img.xz

Does this mean the versión for Pi zero 2 has not been updated?
There are many differences?
If so, are there any plans to update it?

Also, I can not find much information regarding NMEA 2000. I bought also a can bus hat whit the intention of communicating with the other systems throughout NMEA2000.

Does pypilot support NMEA2000?
If not, are there any plans to support it?

Thank you very much in advance.

With that image (tinypilot13-20211126.img) and the latest motor.ino Arduino is not detected. I tried with GPIO 14/15 on the RPi Zero 2 W.

Pypilot was designed by Sean to work with a Pi Zero W, which consumes less than half the power of a Pi Zero 2W.

Sean wrote in the manual and on the forum that his tinypilot image doesn't work with the Pi Zero 2W because of the Tinycore system version he's using.

With a Pi Zero 2W, you should use the following Stelian's image, which can be downloaded from

http://popies.net/pypilot/tinypilot13-20240915.img.xz

Unlike Sean's image, Stellian's image must be unzipped before installation, even with "Raspberry Pi Imager"

By then copying the .pypilot folder from the Pi Zero 1W to the Pi Zero 2W, or vice versa, you can recover its calibration and all the parameters from one version to the other.

Thank you all.

Half power consumption is a good thing too. Smile

Salut JM,

as said that version does not communicate with latest motor.ino at least through default uart RPi Tx Rx pins. WiFi does popup and I connect through the OpenCPN plugin, IMU is detected but not the motor controller. I'll get one of your motor controllers soon and give it a try.

@Sean: I'd love to try latest image for the RPi Zero 2 W. Any chance to get the link to that post?

Edit: Found: http://popies.net/pypilot/tinypilot13-20240915.img.xz

I tried latest Stelian's image with the RPi Zero 2 W. Thank you sir Smile good job!

Currently, the tinypilot_beta_2024_03_09.img.xz image is not compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W because it’s designed for older single-core models like the Pi Zero. The Pi Zero 2 W uses a quad-core chip, so it won’t boot with this image.

Instead, you can flash the latest Raspberry Pi OS Lite (32-bit) using Raspberry Pi Imager, and then manually install TinyPilot with the following command:

curl -sSL curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tiny-p...ck-installcolor rush | bash
After installation, you can access TinyPilot through your Pi’s IP address.

its no tthe same to use raspberry pi os.. intersting though, I think stelian's image in the previous post is probably preferred for standalone pi zero 2 use
