Issues with NMEA 2K data coming in to SignalK
#1
Hi folks,

I'm having a really odd issue with NMEA 2K data coming into SignalK. The data appears to be there okay, but not being interpreted properly. I noticed this issue the other day and was at the boat yesterday, I checked all of the connections and unplugged / replugged the cables and terminators etc.

Yesterday I tried deleting and reading the can0 connection to SignalK, I tried a full re-install of SignalK and still no luck. If I point OpenCPN to my PredictWind DataHub, I can see AIS traffic and position etc. from the NMEA 2K bus. I also have an Orca Core and it's running fine getting the position and AIS data etc. from NMEA 2K.

Really oddly, this morning I potted everything up remotely to take another look, and it was working! AIS data was there, and position info etc. all looked great, then after a reboot I had the same issue...

Running OP4 on a RPi5 using a MacArthur HAT for connection to NMEA 2K. The bus is powered direct from the batteries, there is also the Orca Core, a PredictWind DataHub, OceanSignal AIS transponder and a Standard Horizon VHF connected.

If I leave it running for a while I see some really odd data coming in, like there is demo data being injected somehow? This was not happening this morning.

See below for some of the odd info:

Any help would be much appreciated! The boat is a few hours round trip away from me, but I have good remote access and can power everything off/on via a relay.

Thanks,
FJJ

I should have added - I don't have anything feeding electrical.switches or propulsion data etc. and no autopilot connectivity, it's standalone.

I've taken another look this morning - now got this showing an actual oil pressure, and I don't have any sort of engine monitoring!

The plot thickens on this one, I checked everything on the NMEA 2000 network and could not see anything amiss. So I bought the Victron cable to connect my Cerbo GX to the network and everything is okay there, so the random data is definitely manifesting itself inside my OP machine. Even with both on the network simultaneously I see everything correctly in the Cerbo instance of SignalK and the OP instance has missing and erroneous data.

Activate logging for the n2k connection and hop onto Signal K Discourse with the resulting data file and your settings.json file.
