The stable kernel is still:
Linux raspberrypi 6.6.51+rpt-rpi-2712 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.6.51-1+rpt3 (2024-10-08) aarch64 GNU/Linux So, continue using the beta kernel until the stable version is updated. I will try to notify here when that happens.

Kernel Linux raspberrypi 6.6.51 will be always installed after sudo apt upgrade even if you installed the beta kernel previously, so yes, avoid sudo apt upgrade.
You can remove the MacArthur HAT or any CAN device, update the system, update to the latest beta kernel, mount the HAT again and wait for the stable kernel to be updated.

Created an account to say thank you for posting this! I'm working on an automotive CAN project and the same thing happened to me. I'm pretty new to linux and I had no idea what I did wrong - I thought I'd bricked my pi by accident. Turns out it was the software update. Anyways, thanks again and I'll keep checking this thread for when it's safe to update
