I just received a pop-up with the following message:
"Your Raspberry Pi has been upgraded and can now run labwc.
Labwc is a Wayland compositor - the part of the desktop which
draws the windows. It is a more secure replacement for the
Window environment currently running on your system,
and we recommend switching to it for the best experience."
Is this a wise move or will it interfere with running Open Plotter?
I'd appreciate any advice on the choice.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll defer for the time being.

I just made a trial with Wayland on my Raspi but the result is not wonderful. The resource consumption is significantly higher and it is not possible to dock the tool bar on one side as I like to allow an higher vertical space on the screen for OpenCPN. So I switch back to X11 (easy to do in the OpenPlotter Settings tab).

I have just tested Wayland-labwc and it works. There was a bug in the first release but they have fixed it.
The bad news is that the same issues in Wayland-wayfire are still there so OpenPlotter will keep X11 as default. We will try to switch to Wayland again in OpenPlotter v5 next year.

The next Debian 13 Trixie has no date yet, but it should be sometime in 2025. Raspberry OS will need some time to adapt and then OpenPlotter will also need some time, so I guess we are talking about 2026.

I just unwittingly clicked yes on my headless setup thinking it was something to do with Openplotter and now the screen is black and just says something like "cannot display desktop."
How do I fix this?

Wait some minutes until the new graphical environment starts the remote desktop again. If that does not work try to connect a monitor and update everything and enable the remote desktop again.
