Upgrade to labwc from X Window environment?
#1
I just received a pop-up with the following message:

"Your Raspberry Pi has been upgraded and can now run labwc.
Labwc is a Wayland compositor - the part of the desktop which
draws the windows. It is a more secure replacement for the
Window environment currently running on your system,
and we recommend switching to it for the best experience."

Is this a wise move or will it interfere with running Open Plotter?

I'd appreciate any advice on the choice.

Just tried it & it doesn't work, no image either on the monitor or VNC.

Luckily you choose which to use in sudo raspi-config in a terminal. Smile

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll defer for the time being.

I just made a trial with Wayland onĀ  my Raspi but the result is not wonderful. The resource consumption is significantly higher and it is not possible to dock the tool bar on one side as I like to allow an higher vertical space on the screen for OpenCPN. So I switch back to X11 (easy to do in the OpenPlotter Settings tab).

I have just tested Wayland-labwc and it works. There was a bug in the first release but they have fixed it.

The bad news is that the same issues in Wayland-wayfire are still there so OpenPlotter will keep X11 as default. We will try to switch to Wayland again in OpenPlotter v5 next year.
