MAIANA Blue
#31
I don't understand, sorry.

you said: I have connected [...] to Windows Termite & can see the data flowing from Maiana
and after that: also resent the cli, station etc commands but nothing coming in

what data is flowing in Termite?
keep adapter connected, turn off Maiana from adapter's on/off switch, clear the Termite screen and then turn power on.
send me the first 15-20 lines which appear in Terminal

also: does is respond to cli (and other) command?

I am not receiving any data but is transmitting as it should.

Yes, it responds to all commands.

I will connect to Termite again & get the  first 15 - 20 lines.

Will the CAN adapter bypass this??

no, the CAN adapter will not help. the CAN adapter is just a converter from NMEA0183 to NMEA2000 and need valid/complete input from Maiana.
I'm sorry but I'm still confused. what do you mean when you say you are not receiving data? AIS data?
I'm asking about "any" data coming from Maiana (like replies for the sys? or station? commands, like the GLL, GSV, RMC sentences, like VDM sentences)

right now, I guess you have some data coming from Maiana (because you say it responds to all commands) and I presume you don't have AIS specific data (VDM sentences)
if this is the case, I suspect the Maiana's PCB itself.

I don't have AIS specific data - I'm not getting any AIS targets showing while using the Maiana Blue adapter!!

However, when the same PCB, same cable & connections are connected to the MacArthur hat ALL AIS targets are showing.

I will connect to Termite again & get the first 15 - 20 lines as soon as I get a chance.

Is it possible to just buy the PCB board??

huh, this is strange.
so, with NMEA0183 adapters you get all data except VDM sentences (AIS data I mean)?
and all other data is there? GPS related sentences and Maiana replies for specific cli comands?
let's do more research before buying a new board

Here are a couple of screenshots from Termite:

The second is after the cli command & I re-entered my details

hello Lazzz,

it seems your Maiana is starting, it respond at cli commands and also is getting the GPS fix
so, you have bidirectional communication through the adapter.
unfortunately no VDM data (!AIVDM sentences)

we have more to dig, unfortunately
you said you have AIS reception if you connect Maiana to MacArthur hat, correct?
- can you tell me how do you power the Maiana Adapter? 12v from the same source (battery) with RPi or different one? if different one, try not to use it and power maiana from the same source (battery) like RPi, to be sure we are using the same ground plane.
- from time to time, the adapter's RX LED is blinking? when connected to MacArthur, it's RX LED is blinking?
- if you have more time, please connect Maiana using the NMEA0183 adapter, open Termite, and send "gps off" command (not from cli, do not enter cli mode)
this will keep Maiana running and will stop only the gps module. Maiana will not transmit without gps but the reception is still running. the VDM sentences should be visible
keep it like this for 5-15 minutes and look for these sentences.

Yes - I have AIS reception if I connect Maiana to MacArthur hat - but with slight glitch.

Maiana Adapter is powered by the same LiFePo4 house battery bank that powers the RPi5 / MacArthur hat.

No, the adapter's Rx does not blink, the MacArthur hat LED Rx blinks very occasionally - the Tx LED is solid.
The GPS LED is solid.
The CAN Led's both blink.

I'll connect to Termite & try to send "gps off" command & see what is visible n& keep it like this for 5-15 minutes and look for these sentences.

Very much appreciate your help with this - thank you!!

you're very welcome
I'm sorry I can't be more efficient and faster. Is a strange issue and we have to do more and little steps, finding the issue.
are you comfortable with a multimeter and a soldering station?

Sort of comfortable!!! Might not be the prettiest!!

Here is the Termite with GPS off for about 5 minutes:
