MAIANA Blue
#41
it seems you have reception.
i decoded these sentences and there are 2 boats received, Double Fun and Temple Maiden
some decoding errors for Temple Maiden name but this could be normal, having only few sentences there

so, the adapter is passing over all the data coming from Maiana, including received VDM sentences.
for how long you kept the gps off and get these 7 VDM lines?

Only about 5 minutes - these two boats are moored near me. I didn't expect any more because it's pretty quiet where I am & didn't expect any more traffic.

Yes, I saw your position and nearby boats. Not too many but still...
So, we have reception. Where is the adapter's nmea0183 output connected?
You can also connect the adapter to RPi using USB cable and make a new serial/nmea0183 connection in Openplotter/SignalK

It is connected to my Raymarine plotter.

OK, I'll try connecting the NMEA0183 adapter to my Pi5 & try a new serial connection.

But ..................................... the whole idea is to have a separate AIS transmitter/receiver from my Pi5 as redundancy!!

how did you made the connection between adapter and raymarine?
what kind of NMEA pins (wires) do you have on Raymarine? IN NMEA+ and IN NMEA-? GND and IN NMEA?
on some devices I found I had to play with 2 or 3 wires, using GND wire or not, connect using GND and IN NMEA- or GND and IN NMEA+, or connecting NMEA- at GND...

Still connected to the Raymarine plotter as before when it worked perfectly -  IN NMEA+ and IN NMEA-

When I check the Raymarine for NMEA 0183 sentences there is nothing coming in.

can you try with different chartplotter?
or some RS422/USB converter and a laptop

Yes, both adapters.

I don't have another chartplotter.

How do I connect to a laptop?? I don't have a RS422/USB converter!!

you need one like this (cheapest solution) - not isolated

back to your issue: the Maiana's data is arriving in the adapter and is passed to USB
but not arrive into chartplotter through NMEA0183
this can happen because:
- bad adapter (but not very probably, you have 2 adapters which are acting in the same way)
- bad/wrong wiring
- bad plotter's NMEA0183 input interface (worst case)

- bad/wrong wiring = It used to work - nothing has changed except I renewed the wiring to make sure this wasn't the issue

- bad plotter's NMEA0183 input interface (worst case) = It used to work but not now so I don't know what to try next!!
