Notifications Warning Service not Running
#1
Exclamation
Hi Everybody,
I'm finalizing a migration to Openplotter 4.X and Debian 12 on a fanless mini PC with a Intel N100 processor.
The setup includes an USB GPS and NMEA 0183 data from a n2k backboone through a Yacht Devices serial converter.
The setup had no issues in the 3.X environment but in the 4.X it seems I'm not able to get the openplotter-notification service running.
I made several fresh install on three different PC but always the check system routine prints a warning related to notification "service not running".

if Anybody can help is more than welcome.

Have you got Notifications installed under Openplotter > Settings and the Notifications app? I don't think there is a plug-in now but I would need to check.

Hi, I must apologize for the late answer, i was abroad. I installed notifications under Openplotter together with all other app. I tried to install on different PC after a debian 12 fresh install.
I got it installed with openplotter-settings 4.2.6 and 4.2.7 several times.
I tried to locate the notifications.service or openplotter-notifications.service without result.
In my opinion the installer miss to install a valid service for notifications but my knowledge of linux systems is not so deep.
I'm not sure if I have to open a bug thread.
Before I'd like to know if others have had this issue and was able to solve without strange workarounds.

Yes, this is a bug in non Raspberry devices. The service is never started, investigating...

Hi, Thanks,
anyway, something happened before the update to 4.5.0.
I removed the access with the password for the user in Debian 12.
Then after the boot in check system and opencpn appeared on screen the wallet window asking for a passwd.
I removed the password request in the Debian wallet and notifications started working again.

Your local time (11:10 AM +07, Saturday, May 31, 2025) doesn’t directly impact this, but ensure your device’s date and time are correct (auto-sync recommended) as some services rely on accurate settings. Sprunked
