Trouble getting started
#1
I have a rpi4 with MacArthur hat plus power and IMU.

Just starting and have been mostly focused on setting up the OS and touchscreen so far. Wanted to check if I could get some live sensor data prior to NMEA testing and I decided to try and read the IMU. Now I’m worried that the hat and or power module is not working.

The most obvious thing is that none of the hat LEDs light up. When I apply 12.7v the 12v led flashes ever so briefly and then off. The 5v led never lights up. When the rpi is powered over usb the 5v led also does not light up. I also removed the power module in the hope that would allow the rpi to power this early experiment but that also didn’t improve things.

I am able to view the imu at 0x68 in i2cdetect and the dump has some values but it’s all zeros from 0x3b to 0x4f.

I followed some advice to send reset commands and it has more info now but still nothing from the core accel / gyro even while moving.

A multimeter on the power module shows~12v in but nothing coming out. A mm on the imu shows steady 3.3v

I’m hoping this is just a user error and not hardware since the season is fast approaching.

Appreciate any help or pointers.
Thanks

Ps. Interested to hear about any good setups for racing, local and coastal.

Pps. I also can’t seem to install openplotter I2C sensors & friends. They are grey / disabled. But I realise this is the wrong forum for that.

The 12V LED flashing briefly means that you have not connected 12V SW yet:

The 5V LED only will be on when powering from the module.

Thank you, this solved my hardware issue.

I was still unable to install or open the I2C app, and in the end I started a fresh install on SD card instead of hosting the OS on USB. I wonder if it was being identified as a Desktop and therefore disabled?

I can now open the I2C app, but the ICM-20948 IMU is not listed in supported sensors.

Is there a way to view the data from the IMU in Signal K?
