Can I connect the controller to the Daisyhat?
#1
Hi all,

it's addicting to work with these projects. You always want more. Just as I was happy with my setup I decided to add Pypilot. Trying to add the controller to UART1 (which I read in one of the threads was possible).
I connected the controller to the "serial-1" on the Daisyhat (see picture). Selecting the UART1 and connecting it to Pipylot was all "green" in the serial app. But I see "no motor controller" in the web interface.

I assume the wiring is wrong, but I think then it would not show up in the serial app. In short how do I connect the controller so it will show up in the software?
any tip is appreciated.

That serial connection in the dAISy HAT is not connected to the serial pins of the Raspberry pi, it is connected to the micro in the dAISy HAT. you ned to connect directly to the Raspberry pi UART1 pins but that will be difficult using the dAIS hat on top.

Thank for the reply!
I will try to be creative. My current autohelm is not that stable anymore.
Much appreciated

13-05-2025 .. small update if anyone hits this post: I bought some weird GRIO edge connector to use the pins 27 and 28. Controller is now recognised and the drive is moving if I move the raspi. I have removed all electronics from my ST2000 autohelm and only connected the motor wires. All well so far. Will test it soon on the water. Just a picture for the end result:
