Predictive depth alarm
#1
Hi all!

I'd love a depth warning that looks like "On your current speed and heading, the water depth will be less than x in y minutes". My search skills suggest that it isn't yet available. Is that correct? I'd take a stab at implementing it.

I haven't moved over from Navionics yet because so far it serves most of my simple needs, but a predictive depth alarm would be pretty compelling for me.

Thoughts? How easy would it be? I'd have to make a bit of an investment in hardware and charts and learning the codebase in order to actually try to do this, so:

* How easy would this be? My coding skills are probably better than my forum-searching skills Wink
* How useful would you find it?

Thanks!

You can do this based on depth data available. There are some guys in segeln-forum (german) taking the official depth data and creating their own charts
by mixing openstreetmap and openseamap with calculated depth lines from the official depth data.

Link to a custom vector chart: freenauticalchart
Link to the segeln-forum thread: segeln-forum

I think the best idea is to post your question in this thread. You can do this in english, no problem. They will answer in english, too of course.

I can image to add a feature like this to AvNav, maybe as plugin.
