Help with Can Bus
#1
Big Grin
Hi
Looking for help  Sad I ve exhausted my brain ( not that many cells)
Hat all installed , Power/ST1/NMEA in & out , 1 Wire etc but for the life of me cant sort Can Bus for NMEA 2000 interface

My HAT didnt come with a jumper for 120 ohm terminator , my small back bone all ready has 2 and CANH/L has 60 ohm

I have solid yellow on input Can led no data that I can see when I check traffic via CAN Bus module black terminal screen displays briefly then crashes/closes

The manual says that on the HAT a jumper "must" be installed, is this required even if the CAN bus is correctly terminated ???

By way of wiring I am trying to connect in via a Raymarine drop to ST1toSTNG converter

Any help greatly appreciated  Big Grin

Regards

Marcus

Not installing the jumper has the same effect as installing it in the open position (i.e. no termination).

Make sure that CAN H and L are not swapped. The colors of your wires may be different than shown in the MacArthur documentation.

Also, I'm a bit confused about the mention of the ST1toSTNG converter. STNG is NMEA2000 is CAN. So if you want to wire the MacArthur HAT to an STNG network, you'd wire that directly up the the CAN input without the converter.

I have both ST1 and STNG in my setup and I connect that HAT on the STNG (NMEA2K) side only. I think that's the best way and also allows you to add extra data to the N2K side which you can't do on the ST1 side.

As my HAT isn't the end of the N2K network, I just ignore the number and use terminators on my Raymarine kit to set the end of that network. Give my a shout if I can help.

Thanks for replying and helping

Im connecting to a ST1toSTNG Converter ( seatalk1tostng Bidirectional/Bridge (Raymarine))
Just trying to get NMEA2000 access so I can relay ST1/Access to my autopiliot via SigK
(MHAT is ST1 input only)
Can should be blue/white and think ive got the right pair (and polarity) via input pin out but will check

Good to know jumper not needed but will be needed if I try to connect as end of line/backbone as opposed drop

Yellow light on MHat Steady on from OP manual indicates CAN being received but means SigK not configured

Ill have another go when back on the boat, appreciate it

Thanks for replying and helping Matt? (watch a lot of your utube vids !)

My kit is predominantly ST1 hope to move £££ to newer N2k kit as cash allows/units fail
Just trying to control my autopiliot  (ST1 interface) via the HAT from (below) SIGK/N2K/STNG Converter/Autopilot
If I cannot get it to work will have to buy a NMEA0183 to ST1 converter then via the HAT [ST1 is being received ( HAT input only) ie see it but cant speak to it...)

As I said above to Adrian going to give it another try when back on the boat but appreciate your kind offer (if you dont mind it gets a bit much being a humble electrician)

again thks
