Power for Pi4 + McArthur Hat + Power Module
#1
Hi

I'm setting up at home for testing and have a Pi 4+McArthur Hat with Power Module.

I've not yet got a 12V DC supply at home.

Can I just use USB-C power to the Pi to power the Pi and Hat without any damage to the Power Module?

Thanks

Nick

Yes, you can use the MacArthur HAT with the Pi powered from USB. The things to note are:
  • Seatalk1 won't work without 12V
  • The 12V switch won't power down the Pi
  • MAIANA won't get power, as that's coming from the 12V side
  • The 5V LED on the HAT won't light up when powered from USB

CAN/NMEA2000, NMEA0183, 1-Wire and I2C do work when powered from USB.
