i2C alternate connections?

I am looking at how to connect i2C sensors to the HAT. I very much dislike the tiny JST connector. 

I think that I can direct connect to the GPIO pins here. Can someone confirm? I have been studying the schematic to understand what is connected and where.

The intention of the JST connector is to be compatible with the many sensor breakout boards from Adafruit, Sparkfun, etc.

If you prefer jumper wires, connecting to pins 1, 3, 5 and 6 on the Raspberry Pi's header is one option. The I2C signals are also available on the IMU header, which may be more convenient if you don't have or use the IMU module (or put together an interposer for the IMU plus an extra header for I2C).

PS: many/most of the sensor boards from Adafruit and Sparkfun also have the I2C pins broken out to pads. So if you already have one of these, you could solder a 0.1" header to tap into the I2C bus.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the Adafruit i2C sensors now, I see what you mean. 
On the boat, I would prefer something a little larger to work with. Crimping duPont's or 2.5mm JST's is about my limit for eyesight and focus, and  the smallest I would consider for durability in that environment.
